There are occasions when the volume control on the switch needs to be taken out of the picture entirely — most commonly when a zone is feeding an AVR that will handle its own volume. This covers setting a zone to pass audio straight through at a fixed, unity level.

Setting a Zone to Pass-Through Volume

Select the zone.On the Properties tab, set "Select Audio Output" to the zone you're setting up.

Set the volume to 84%.84% is the pass-through level — the level going out matches the level coming in —as long as the zone's Min and Max Volume settings haven't been changed from their defaults.If you've customised those, the pass-through percentage will be different.
The switch must not also be set as the volume endpoint. Setting the zone's volume to 84% only stops the switch itself from adjusting the level. If Composer is still configured to use the switch as the zone's volume endpoint, its own volume control can still be raised or lowered — undoing the pass-through setting without any error. In an AVR setup, the AVR should be the volume endpoint, not the switch.
Backing Up the Setting
Back up after every change. On Composer's Action tab, press Backup Volume Settings. Skipping this means a power outage can silently revert the zone back to normal volume control.
