Why Ethernet Isn't Passing Through Your neo:XSR

If Ethernet isn't reaching a device connected to a neo:XSR receiver, this is expected behaviour rather than a fault — the neo:XSR does not support Ethernet pass-through over HDBaseT. This article explains which models do, and what to do instead.

This applies to neo:XSR, neo:8a, neo:6a, and neo:4. Only neo:X+ supports Ethernet pass-through over HDBaseT.

Why This Happens

Ethernet pass-through depends on the HDBaseT transmitter and receiver chipset used, not just a visible port. The single Ethernet port on the back of the matrix — on every model, including neo:X+ — is only for connecting the matrix itself to your network for the Web Interface, third-party control, and Cloud Monitoring. That port has never carried the pass-through signal on any model.

Genuine pass-through happens at the receiver, and it varies by receiver model:

The neo:UltraSR Receiver has no Ethernet port on its panel, which reflects a transmitter/receiver chipset that isn't built to carry a network signal over the HDBaseT link. There's nowhere for Ethernet to be handed off to your endpoint device, regardless of cable quality, run length, or bandwidth.

Because this is a hardware limitation rather than an infrastructure issue, checks like cable category, run length, or static IP configuration on the endpoint won't resolve it. There is no toggle, setting, or firmware update that enables it.


Getting Network Connectivity to the Endpoint

Run a dedicated network cable to the device
The most reliable option where a display needs IP connectivity — for example a Samsung Frame TV requiring network access for control or app features — is to run a separate Cat cable directly from your network switch to the device.

Use the display's built-in Wi-Fi
If a wired run isn't practical, connecting the display to the local wireless network is a workable alternative for control and app connectivity, provided signal coverage is sufficient at the install location.

Move to neo:X+ if Ethernet pass-through is a hard requirement
Where every zone genuinely needs Ethernet carried over the same HDBaseT run as video, neo:X+ is the only model in the range that supports this (10/100).
IR and RS232 control paths are unaffected by this limitation and continue to work normally over HDBaseT on all models, including neo:XSR.
