ProAudio Config Tool — Overview and Interface Guide

Modified on Sat, 25 Apr at 12:19 AM

The ProAudio Config Tool is an application used to configure all settings on the ProAudio range. This article explains the layout of the tool, what each tab contains, and how the sidebar controls work.

The Config Tool requires an Installer ID to download. See Downloading and Connecting the ProAudio Config Tool for installation instructions.

Main Tabs

The Config Tool has six main tabs running across the top of the window. Each tab covers a different aspect of the ProAudio configuration.

TabWhat it configures
Stereo InputSettings for all analog audio inputs — Delay, Gain, and Mode per input. Supports up to 16 analog inputs depending on model.
Coax InputSettings for all digital coaxial audio inputs — Delay, Gain, and Mode per input. Supports up to 16 coax inputs depending on model.
Optical InputSettings for all digital optical (TOSLINK) audio inputs — Delay, Gain, and Mode per input. Supports up to 16 optical inputs depending on model.
Stereo ZonesSettings for all analog output zones — source routing, volume, EQ, levels (min/max volume), filtering, delay, and gain per zone.
Digital ZonesSettings for all digital output zones — mute, input selection, and audio routing mode per zone.
PagingConfiguration for the paging system — switch configuration, and up to two paging presets with per-zone settings.
AdvancedSystem flags, front panel LED brightness settings, and a Set To Suggested button for applying recommended defaults.

Input Tabs — Stereo Input, Coax Input, Optical Input

All three input tabs share the same layout. Each input has three controls:

  • Delay — adds a time delay to the input signal in milliseconds. Default is 0ms. Used to synchronise audio with video or other audio sources.
  • Gain — adjusts the input signal level in dB. Default is 0dB. Range is -24dB to +24dB. Used to balance the volume of different source devices.
  • Mode — sets how the input signal is handled. Default is Standard. Options vary by model.

Stereo Zones Tab

The Stereo Zones tab is the primary working area for configuring audio output zones. Each zone has a set of four icon buttons at the top that expand different controls:

IconWhat it expands
Level bars iconEQ — Balance (Bal), Bass, Treble sliders, and a 5-band graphic equaliser (100Hz, 330Hz, 1kHz, 3.3kHz, 10kHz)
Volume bars iconLevels — Min Volume, Max Volume, Mute Level, and Mute Level Mode (Sloped)
Speaker iconMute controls — expanded mute state options
Graph/filter iconFilter — Filter Type, Filter Frequency, and Mode

Below the icon buttons, each zone shows:

  • Mute / Unmute / Power buttons — three teal icon buttons controlling zone mute state and power
  • Current Source — shows the currently routed input. Clicking opens a source picker showing all Analog, Digital, and Optical inputs plus a None option.
  • Volume — a horizontal slider showing the current volume in dB. Default is 12dB.
  • Delay — output delay in milliseconds. Default is 0ms.
  • Gain — output gain in dB. Default is 0dB.
  • Current Signal — a status line showing the current signal state of the zone.

Digital Zones Tab

The Digital Zones tab configures digital audio outputs. Each digital zone has:

  • Mute — mute button and status for the zone
  • Input — input selector (None by default)
  • Audio Routing — dropdown controlling how audio is routed to this zone. Default is Independent Zone.

Paging Tab

The Paging tab has three sub-tabs:

  • Switch Configuration — configures up to two physical paging switches (Switch 1 and Switch 2), each with a Mode, Preset, and Time setting. Default mode is Disabled.
  • Preset 1 / Preset 2 — configures what happens to each zone when a page is triggered. Per zone settings include: whether to Allow Paging, the paging Source, Mute during page behaviour, Page Volume level, and Vol Mute. Also includes Initial Delay, Minimum Page Time, and a Test Page button.

Advanced Tab

The Advanced tab contains system-level flags and LED settings. The flags section includes a note that ECO and ASY must be enabled for the Config Tool to work. A Set To Suggested button applies the recommended defaults for all flags. The flags are:

FlagDescription
XIOUse standard numbering of I/O
CREEnd all responses with a carriage return and a line feed
ECOAlways send response string when a serial command is issued
ACKDon't acknowledge cmds with "^+$"
ASYSend a response string on any parameter change
MJPVolume jumps to unmute level before incrementing
UVLVolume unmutes on 'VP' or 'VPZ' command

Front Panel LED settings allow you to configure the brightness of the front panel LED in three states: Dim, Bright, and Off. Each accepts a percentage value (0–100%).

Do not change the Advanced flags unless instructed by Pulse-Eight support. Changing ECO or ASY from their enabled state will cause the Config Tool to stop communicating with the matrix.

The Sidebar

The right-hand sidebar is always visible and contains controls that apply to the whole unit:

Unit Information

  • Model and Serial Number — displayed at the top (e.g. ProAudio16, S/No: 90B1S001296D6)
  • Firmware Version — currently installed firmware (e.g. 4.02)

Network

  • Network toggle — switches between DHCP and Static IP modes
  • Current IP — shows the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway currently assigned to the unit
  • Static IP — fields to enter a fixed IP address, mask, and gateway. Click Set Static IP to apply.

Power and Settings

  • Power — On/Off toggle for the unit
  • Number Scheme — switches between Native and Extended numbering for I/O
  • Master Volume — global volume control affecting all zones simultaneously

Save Selected

The Save Selected section controls which settings are written to the unit's permanent memory. Tick the categories you want to save and click Save Selected. Available categories are:

  • Zone source, output mappings + power state
  • Zone volume
  • Zone audio parameters
  • Source audio parameters
  • Global audio parameters
  • Switch timings (DZ)
  • Control settings (XS)
  • IP parameters
  • Paging
  • All
Settings are not automatically saved. If the unit loses power before you save, any unsaved changes will be lost. Always save after making configuration changes.

Factory Reset and Backup / Restore

  • Factory Reset Selected — resets the ticked categories to factory defaults
  • Save Selected — saves the ticked categories to permanent memory
  • Backup — saves the current configuration to a file on your PC
  • Restore — loads a previously saved configuration file back to the unit

Command History

The Command History panel at the bottom of the sidebar shows a live log of all commands being sent to and received from the ProAudio. This is useful for verifying that changes are being applied and for diagnosing issues. Commands prefixed with ^! indicate errors.
