Panasonic TVs — Media Control Buttons Not Working with CEC Adapter

Modified on Fri, 24 Apr at 10:35 PM

Symptom

When using the Pulse-Eight USB-CEC Adapter (or libcec) with a Panasonic TV, the playback control buttons at the bottom of the Panasonic remote — Play, Pause, Stop, Fast Forward, Rewind — may not work to control your PC or media centre application, even though other CEC functions are working correctly.

Cause

On some Panasonic TVs, the operation mode for the remote's media control buttons needs to be changed before they will send CEC commands to connected devices. This is a Panasonic-specific setting and is not related to the CEC adapter itself.

Fix

1
On the Panasonic TV remote, press and hold the bottom Power button — the button at the very bottom of the remote, sometimes labelled TV Power.
2
While holding the Power button, press 7, then 3, then Stop.
3
Release the Power button.

After completing this sequence, the Play, Pause, Stop, Fast Forward, and Rewind buttons should now send CEC commands correctly to your connected device.

Notes:
  • This is a Panasonic TV remote setting, not a libcec or adapter setting.
  • If the issue returns after a TV firmware update or factory reset, repeat the button sequence.
  • If this sequence does not work on your specific model, check that CEC (VIERA Link) is enabled in your TV's settings menu first.
