ProAudio — How to Back Up and Restore Your Configuration

Backing up your ProAudio configuration is strongly recommended before making significant changes, upgrading firmware, or replacing a unit. A backup file allows you to restore a complete configuration in minutes.

You will need the ProAudio Config Tool to follow these steps. If you have not yet installed it, see: Downloading and Connecting the ProAudio Config Tool (Windows)

Backing Up Your Configuration

1
Open the ProAudio Config Tool and connect to your ProAudio matrix.
2
Once connected, the tool will automatically read the current state of the matrix. Wait for the Command History to finish updating before proceeding.
3
In the sidebar, scroll down to the Backup and Restore section.
4
Using the tick boxes, select the settings categories you wish to back up. To back up everything, tick All.
5
Click the Backup button and choose a location on your PC to save the file.
Tip: Name your backup files clearly, including the matrix model, site name, and date — for example: ProAudio8_SiteName_2025-04-24.bak. This makes it easy to identify the correct file later.

Restoring a Configuration

Restoring to the Same Unit

Use this when recovering a unit after a factory reset or firmware update.

1
Connect to the ProAudio matrix in the Config Tool.
2
In the sidebar, scroll to the Backup and Restore section and click Restore.
3
Browse to your saved backup file and select it.
4
When prompted "Do you want to restore the IP address from the backup?" — click No to keep the current IP address, or Yes only if you want to restore the original IP.
5
The restore will begin. Watch the Command History updating as settings are sent to the matrix. A completion percentage is shown in real time.
6
Once complete, issue a Save Settings command (tick All in the Save Settings section, then click Save Settings) to make the restored configuration permanent.
Important: If you do not save after restoring, the configuration will revert to defaults on the next power cycle.

Restoring to a Second Identical Unit

Use this to clone a configuration from one ProAudio to another of the same model — useful when replacing a faulty unit or deploying a duplicate setup.

  • Follow the same restore steps above.
  • When prompted about the IP address, click No unless you specifically want to clone the IP. Two units on the same IP will cause a conflict.
  • If the backup file was created from a different ProAudio model, the Config Tool will display a mismatch warning and the restore will not proceed. Backups can only be restored to the same model.

If a Restore Does Not Complete Correctly

  • Do not power cycle the unit mid-restore.
  • Close and reopen the Config Tool, reconnect to the matrix, and attempt the restore again.
  • If the unit is unresponsive after a failed restore, contact Pulse-Eight support with the serial number of the unit.
