Neo Modular: Formatting the SD Card

Over time, a Neo Modular matrix can become stuck or fail to boot. In most cases this is caused by a corrupted SD card, and it can be resolved by reformatting the card and reloading the content files. This article walks you through the process.

This procedure applies to the Neo Modular range only. It does not apply to the current neo:4, neo:6a, neo:8a, neo:X+, or neo:XSR matrix ranges.

Before You Start

You'll need a laptop or PC with an SD card reader (built-in or USB), and the content file for your matrix.

Formatting will erase everything on the card. Once you insert the SD card into your laptop or PC, double-check you have selected the correct drive before formatting — formatting the wrong drive will erase its contents too.

Formatting the SD Card

1
Remove the SD card from the matrix.Power down the matrix first, then remove the SD card from its slot.
2
Insert the card into a laptop or PC and format it as FAT32.Use your laptop or PC's built-in formatting tool. Make sure you select the SD card as the target drive, and choose the FAT32 file system.
3
Unzip the content file.Extract the attached content file to a folder on your laptop or PC.
4
Copy the contents to the SD card.Copy the complete contents of the unzipped folder to the root directory of the SD card — not the folder itself, just what's inside it.
5
Re-insert the SD card and power the matrix back on.Insert the card back into the matrix and reapply power.

This clears the SD card and allows the unit to boot normally.
