ProAudio — Configuring EQ and Tone Controls per Zone

Modified on Sat, 25 Apr at 12:29 AM

Each stereo output zone on the ProAudio has individual tone controls and a 5-band graphic equaliser, configurable using the Config Tool. These allow you to tune the sound for each zone to suit the room acoustics and speaker characteristics.

Accessing the EQ Controls

1
Open the Config Tool and connect to your ProAudio unit.
2
Click the Stereo Zones tab.
3
Locate the zone you want to configure. Click the level bars icon — the first icon on the left in the row of four icons at the top of the zone panel. This expands the EQ controls for that zone.

Tone Controls

The expanded EQ panel shows three tone control sliders at the top:

ControlWhat it adjusts
BalBalance — adjusts the left/right stereo balance of the zone. Centre position is equal balance. Move left to favour the left channel, right to favour the right channel.
BassLow frequency boost or cut for the zone. Increasing Bass adds warmth; decreasing it reduces low-end rumble.
TrebHigh frequency boost or cut for the zone. Increasing Treble adds brightness and clarity; decreasing it softens the sound.

5-Band Graphic Equaliser

Below the tone controls is a 5-band graphic equaliser with vertical sliders at the following frequency bands:

BandFrequencyTypical use
Band 1100 HzSub-bass and deep bass. Boost to add fullness; cut to reduce boom in small rooms.
Band 2330 HzLow-mid frequencies. Cut here to reduce muddiness or boxiness in the sound.
Band 31 kHzMid frequencies — where most speech intelligibility sits. Boost for vocal clarity; cut to reduce harshness.
Band 43.3 kHzUpper mid frequencies. Boost for presence and clarity; cut to reduce listening fatigue.
Band 510 kHzHigh frequencies — air and sparkle. Boost to add brightness and openness; cut to reduce hiss or harshness.
Start flat. Set all EQ sliders to the centre (0dB) position before making adjustments. Make small changes — a few dB at a time — and listen after each adjustment. Large EQ changes are rarely necessary and can reduce audio quality.

Saving EQ Settings

1
Once you are happy with the EQ settings for all zones, in the sidebar tick Zone audio parameters.
2
Click Save Selected to save the EQ settings permanently to the unit.
