ProAudio Not Showing Up on Network

Modified on Fri, 24 Apr at 10:19 PM

If your ProAudio matrix is not appearing on the network and cannot be found by the Config Tool, work through the steps below in order.

Step 1 — Check the Basics

  • The ProAudio is powered on — check the front panel LEDs are illuminated.
  • The Ethernet cable is firmly connected to the network port on the rear of the ProAudio and to your network switch or router.
  • The switch port is active — try connecting a laptop to the same cable or port to confirm it is working.
  • The device running the Config Tool is on the same local network as the ProAudio.

Step 2 — Try Config Tool Discovery

Open the ProAudio Config Tool. On the device list screen, the tool will automatically scan for ProAudio units on the local network. Wait up to 60 seconds for discovery to complete. If the unit appears, connect normally. If not, continue to Step 3.

Step 3 — Check the IP Address Directly

If you know the IP address of the ProAudio from a previous session, try connecting directly in the Config Tool by entering the IP address manually. You can also check your router's DHCP client list — the ProAudio will typically appear with a hostname beginning with "ProAudio".

Step 4 — Power Cycle the ProAudio

Turn the ProAudio off at the mains, wait 30 seconds, and power it back on. Allow up to 60 seconds for the unit to fully boot and obtain a DHCP address. Then retry discovery in the Config Tool.

Step 5 — Reset to DHCP via Serial (Last Resort)

If the ProAudio has been manually assigned a static IP that is no longer valid on your network, it will not be discoverable. You can reset it to DHCP using a USB-to-serial cable and PuTTY.

You will need: a USB-to-serial (RS-232) cable and PuTTY (free download).

1
Connect the USB-to-serial cable to the RS-232 port on the rear of the ProAudio and to your PC.
2
Open Windows Device Manager and find the COM port number assigned to the USB cable, listed under Ports (COM & LPT).
3
Open PuTTY. Select Serial as the connection type. Enter the COM port number and set the baud rate to 19200.
4
Click Terminal in the left menu. Set both Local echo and Local line editing to Force on. Then click Open.
5
To verify the connection, type the following and press Enter — the ProAudio should respond with its firmware version:
^V$
6
Once confirmed, type the following command and press Enter to reset network settings and restore DHCP:
^FS65535$
7
Power cycle the ProAudio. It will now obtain an IP address via DHCP and should appear on the network.
Note: This command resets all network settings to factory defaults, including any static IP, subnet mask, and gateway settings. You will need to reconfigure these after reconnecting.
Still not found? If the unit does not appear after a factory reset, there may be a hardware fault. Contact Pulse-Eight support with the serial number of the unit.
